Geropsychiatric Services For Older Adults
At a time when they had planned to relax and enjoy life, older adults often
encounter unexpected stresses and problems. Some of these problems may
include:

Chronic physical or emotional illness

Loss of one's spouse or other close family members

Decreasing ability to manage one's daily life independently

Need to move from one's familiar home and environment

Loss of friends and usual activities and associations
These changes often present overwhelming challenges to the problem-solving
and coping abilities of older adults and their families. The development of
anxiety, panic attacks, depression, memory problems, dementia are NOT normal
consequences of aging, but may happen in response to these stresses.
Our specially trained professional staff works as a team to provide
evaluation, treatment planning, counseling and support. Our goal is to help
patients and families develop new coping and problem-solving skills, and to
restore emotional health.
It is important for the older adult to maintain as much independence as
possible, keeping in mind the basic needs for safety and for social contact
with others. The result is improvement in the quality of life for our
patients.
We provide a complete range of services, so that individual needs can be
addressed.
