Psychosocial Oncology Services

Trinitas Regional Medical Center realizes that living with cancer can be very difficult. Often, it is helpful for cancer individuals, their family, and friends, to talk with others who can help sort through the experiences and feelings they are having.

A variety of psychosocial support services are available. Please...participate.

Individual/family support and counseling is available to those patients and their families who wish to discuss cancer related issues, which are dominating their daily lives. Services are provided to both inpatients and outpatients.

Support and educational groups are offered for participants to share their feelings, questions, and concerns in a supportive environment. Together, group members explore strategies of coping. Education is also provided.

The following groups are also available:

Us-Too
A prostate cancer educational/support group for patients and their partners. The group meets the first Wednesday of each month in the George F. Billington Education Conference Center at the Medical Center from 7-8:30pm.

Bereavement
A support group for those who have lost a relative or close friend to cancer. The group provides support to ease the difficult grieving process. Share thoughts and feelings with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The group meets three times a year for a six-week session.

Teens
A support group for the adolescent children of cancer patients. This support group provides an opportunity for the teenage children and other relatives of cancer patients to express their concerns and share their experiences with others in the same situation. This support group meets on the second Wednesday of each month from 7:00pm - 8:00pm.

All support groups are coordinated by professionally trained facilitators and are free of charge. All other services are $75.00 per session, often covered by insurance.

Other services are provided with outside agencies. Cancer Hope Network, Inc. provides patient-to-patient support, matching cancer survivors with those in treatment. The American Cancer Society offers a variety of programs, support services and education.
