Kean University Students, Faculty Bring "Ragtime" To Residents of
Trinitas Extended Care Center
Under the direction of Holly Logue, students, teachers and alumni from Kean
University in Union recently performed scenes and songs from the musical
"Ragtime" for residents of Trinitas Regional Medical Center's Brother Bonaventure Extended Care & Rehab Center. The troupe performed both individual and production numbers
from the musical's first act.
The performance at Trinitas was a special part of the recreation program
offered to the Brother Bonaventure Center residents. "Ragtime" was performed
as part of the Senior Night Out program, a special initiative of Dawood
Farahi, PhD, president of Kean University. The program provides
opportunities for older adults to attend live theatre performances at the
University's Wilkins Theater or at performances "on the road" in locations
throughout the community such as Brother Bonaventure Extended Care & Rehab Center.
Set in 1906 New York City and featuring ragtime melodies reminiscent of
those popularized by American composer Scott Joplin, "Ragtime" blends a
robust bit of Americana and poignant stories of rich and poor, Blacks and
immigrants, together with lively music.
Following the performance, members of the cast mingled with the audience who
showed great appreciation for their performance.
